The team behind Laundry & Latte had a dream

Following up from the brief introduction in our November issue on the installations pages, we wanted to find out more about this concept. Founders Dee Anderson and Sarah-Jane Adams, along with AGS Limited, tell us the story about Laundry & Latte

After running Dee Creases Limited in Brentwood, Essex for 15 years, carrying out drycleaning, wetcleaning, ironing, duvet laundering, and service washes we encountered a washing machine breakdown with parts not available for two weeks!

As there was a local launderette nearby, we loaded up our van and headed off. Unfortunately, on arrival we found that half of the machines were out of order and no assistant was available to help, no toilet to use, no anything really other than very tired machines and a very forlorn business. It made us feel quite depressed!

The road travelled has been fraught with challenges which have required oodles of belief and tenacity, blood, sweat and tears

However, a seed was planted and over the next few days, we looked into other launderettes in our immediate area and found that a lot of them were very out of date. We thought this might be due to the fact that people no longer required to use them, however the sharp rise in service washes at Dee Creases Limited proved that there really was still a real need. There was definitely a place for launderettes, but a transformation had to happen and we knew that we were the team to create it!

Laundry & Latte was born.

For us, which the recent pandemic confirmed and made even more pertinent was that we are all time poor and spending time doing what brings us joy, time with family and friends is what life is all about. Laundry is one of the most time consuming of household chores and we wanted to give that time back to our customers: coupled with the lack of space in most homes for washers and drying equipment life is too short to be wasting in some cases of eight hours per week on household laundry. To make it happen we enlisted the help of an interior designer, external consultant, a builder and AGS Limited to ensure we had the best equipment on the market.

The road travelled has been fraught with challenges which have required oodles of belief and tenacity, blood, sweat and tears. However, trying to change is never easy and we are and will continue to be committed to this, now and in the future. The positive environmental impact of using ecological Electrolux Professional equipment with increased utility savings and plant-based detergents all supplied by AGS Ltd encourage customers to look after their garments rather than simply dispose and re-buy which is so very important to us. Contributing to real environmental change starts by making small adaptions to daily life and we hope that our part at Laundry & Latte will make a difference.

After years in the making our doors finally opened in October and Laundry & Latte has already created a stir. Everyone who walks through the doors falls in love with our new launderette and coffee shop concept as well as the experience they receive. Our business model is to eventually grow the company over the UK with various other iterations – so watch this space! Collaborating with business such as Perky Blenders speciality coffee and the expertise of AGS who supplied and installed Electrolux WS6-9, WS6-14, WS6-20 and WS6-28 washers, TD6-17S and TD6-24S dryers as well as detergent dosing pumps, AGS detergents, a water heater and a water softener: we feel that we have created something extremely unique.

The project has faced many challenges but at the root of it all was a dream. A dream that has now been realised and a dream that is set to make a huge difference to the lives of customers.
