Why the Society of Hospital Linen Services and Laundry Managers is more vital than ever

In the complex world of healthcare, where hygiene, efficiency, and sustainability are non-negotiable, the role of linen and laundry services is critical. Behind the scenes, one organisation has quietly championed best practice, built community, and ensured those responsible for delivering these vital services are equipped, informed, and heard, the Society of Hospital Linen Service and Laundry Managers (SHLSLM).
For decades, the SHLSLM has served as the national voice and support network for linen service professionals working across NHS Trusts, public-sector providers, and commercial partners. The society connects operational leaders, procurement specialists, engineers, and suppliers, creating a collaborative community where shared knowledge leads to smarter solutions and higher standards.
“The society exists to bring people together — to share, learn, and drive forward the professional standards in our sector,” says Dave Grimshaw, SHLSLM chair.
“It’s about helping members stay ahead of challenges and connected to each other.”
Becoming a member of the SHLSLM is an investment in professional growth and industry insight. Members receive access to exclusive events, forums, and updates from key stakeholders across healthcare and laundry supply chains.
Grimshaw adds: “Whether you’re tackling sustainability targets, navigating procurement frameworks, or adopting new technologies in your operation, SHLSLM membership gives you access to a national network of hospital laundry and linen leaders and insight into industry trends through events, briefings, and publications. Members also have direct influence via involvement in forums and working groups.”
“The society has never been more relevant,” adds Ron McLean, SHLSLM president.
“We’re facing some of the most exciting and complex changes in our sector. SHLSLM brings together the people who will shape how we adapt and succeed.”
The highlight of the society’s calendar is the SHLSLM Annual Forum, returning this year to the Parkway Hotel and Spa, Cwmbran, NP44 3UW on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 October 2025. This event brings together laundry professionals, NHS category managers, suppliers, and sustainability leaders for a packed programme of expert speakers and open discussion.
Membership is now open for the 2025/26 year. Whether you’re managing a laundry site, leading procurement, supporting clinical operations, or supplying products and services to the sector there is a place for you in the SHLSLM community.
