The Tyne Valley has a new addition to its business community, as Launder and Press Hexham opens its doors, bringing over 20 years of experience in the laundry industry.

The new venture is led by Jeanette Groom, originally from Liverpool, who has successfully managed laundries across the North East, including a thriving location in Heaton, Newcastle.

Nestled within a parade of shops in the town, Launder and Press Hexham has a strong focus on serving local businesses, catering primarily to Airbnb hosts, hotels, restaurants, as well as domestic customers for the cleaning of suits, trousers, and dresses. Area manager for Launder and Press is Natalie Worts, who brings with her 25 years of experience working for a national chain drycleaning firm. Worts has been part of Launder and Press for three years and is excited to build on the company’s values of community engagement and personal service.

“We’re more than just a laundry. We pride ourselves on being a community-based, independent business with a traditional approach to customer care. We believe in good old-fashioned customer service, where even dogs get a biscuit when they visit!” said Worts. “There was originally a laundry in the building we’ve taken over, but customers will see many differences, including our green methods of cleaning.”

Launder and Press Hexham is dedicated to eco-conscious practices. The laundry has installed energy-saving equipment and operates professional drycleaning services powered by the eco-friendly Electrolux Professional lagoon system, which uses water-based cleaning instead of traditional solvents like perchloroethylene (Perc). This system not only reduces carbon emissions but also ensures that clothes are cleaned without the use of toxic substances, making it safer for both customers and staff.

“Our use of the Electrolux lagoon system is a gamechanger for those who are looking for eco-friendly drycleaning in Hexham. It’s important to us that we minimise our environmental footprint while still providing top-quality cleaning services. We’re proud to be one of the few in the region offering this advanced, green alternative,” Worts added. Launder and Press is also exploring franchising opportunities to bring its community-first approach and green cleaning methods to even more areas.
