Christy Hospitality goes from the high street to hotels…

Who hasn’t heard of Christy? The name is synonymous with quality towels and bedding, until now only seen on the high street, but now a new era of the company`s evolution is about to begin, with Christy Hospitality products coming to the world of hotels.

Since 1850, Christy have interwoven traditional techniques with the newest textile innovations, echoing Manchester’s journey from industrial powerhouse to the cosmopolitan destination it has become today.

Christy’s craftsmanship has been enriched by creative ideas and expertise from all over the globe for nearly 170 years. Henry Christy brought from his travels to the Ottoman Empire a new innovation, the looped towel, which had not been seen in this country before that time and was received with great enthusiasm – prior to that, people had dried themselves on flat linens, and this provided a welcome layer of comfort to the bathing experience.

Queen Victoria saw Christy’s new towels when she visited the Great Exhibition in 1851 and became the brand`s patron for many years which very much helped to popularise the Christy name. From Christy’s very first towels to the latest collections, every product has been designed with the same love and care. The company are immensely proud of every product which bears the Christy label, and all care is taken to ensure that the quality is as premium as it has ever been. All Christy products are still designed in Manchester by their talented in-house team. Christy’s parent company since 2006 is Welspun, one of the world’s largest textile companies, supplying towels, robes and bedding to over 50 countries across the globe. Welspun India (and Welspun USA, established in 2009), have been supplying many large hotel groups for a number of years, with clients including Hilton, IHG, Marriott, Taj and are trusted suppliers to many more.

You may be surprised to learn that a large proportion of all towels sold on the high street are also made by Welspun, labelled with the retailer`s own branding, so your lives are perhaps already touched by a bit of Welspun comfort. In September 2019 Good Housekeeping magazine published an article about the best, softest and most fluffy towels available on the high street, and six of the top 11 towel brands are actually made by Welspun. For confidentiality reasons they are not allowed to name them, but Christy towels rank among the elite.

Christy’s luxury hospitality textiles include bed linen, towels and robes. Towels are available in luxury long looped Egyptian cotton, reminiscent of the famous Renaissance towels which have been a long time best seller, you can rest assured that Christy towels will last and last. The Christy Hospitality bedding is available in a luxurious 300 thread count and crafted in mercerised cotton sateen to ensure quality, comfort and durability. Care has been taken to produce these items in a construction which is entirely suitable for commercial laundering, with no poppers, buttons or fiddly fasteners. The products have all been extensively tested in different types of industrial laundry facilities and will definitely stand up to the rigours of hotel life.

Of course, the Christy Hospitality range isn’t just limited to textiles for the bedroom. They also offer a range of robes and hammam towels, bath sheets and hand towels. These are perfect for the pool, spa or treatment room. More products will be introduced in the coming months, and things look exciting for Christy as they enter this new arena. Products are available to order now, and Christy are delighted to discuss any bespoke products for large projects.

The company are also launching now a separate Welspun Hospitality range, comprising towels, robes and linen for the mainstream laundry sector, competitively priced, and made to the same exacting standards.

For any enquiries on either product range, contact them at hospitality@christy.co.uk.
