Airtex UK launches purpose-built airline laundry facility near Heathrow

After more than 25 years working in specialist airline laundry, the team behind Airtex UK is preparing to open a purpose-built facility designed exclusively for the aviation sector.

Launching this September near Heathrow, Airtex UK represents the next chapter for director, Pritpal Purewall, whose career has been dedicated to supporting airlines with the specialist textile services that keep aircraft operating to schedule. Having built long-standing relationships with airline procurement teams, inflight catering providers, textile manufacturers and equipment suppliers, Airtex is the culmination of decades of operational experience.

“This isn’t about entering the airline laundry market,” says Purewall. “We’ve been part of it for more than two decades. Airtex is an opportunity take everything that experience taught us and build properly from the ground up.ˮ

Unlike many commercial laundries that diversify into aviation, Airtex has been designed exclusively around the demands of airline operations. From cabin linens and blankets to catering textiles, every element of the facility has been engineered to deliver the speed, quality and traceability required by modern airline customers. Airline laundry remains one of the most technically demanding areas of commercial textile care. Tight aircraft turnaround schedules, rigorous quality standards and complete product accountability leave little room for compromise.

Airtex’s purpose-built approach has been developed specifically to meet those challenges. The new facility has been built around three core principles: precision, intelligence and responsibility. Precision comes through aviation-grade processing systems and full textile traceability, giving customers confidence in every stage of the laundering process.

Intelligence is delivered through investment in AI-supported technology and robotics to assist with sorting, quality control and demand planning. While automation will improve efficiency and consistency, experienced people remain central to every operational decision, combining technology with the expertise that only years in the industry can provide.

Responsibility has also been embedded into the business from the outset. Sustainability has been designed into the operation from day one, with the facility built around net zero principles rather than retrofitted with environmental initiatives later. As both the aviation and textile care industries continue to focus on reducing their environmental impact, Airtex aims to demonstrate that operational performance and sustainability can work hand in hand.

Strategically located near Heathrow, the facility is ideally positioned to support airlines, inflight service providers and aviation procurement teams operating through one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
