Janice Raycroft hears from some of the industry’s largest linen suppliers about their latest products and developments.

Look on any of the travel websites packed with reviews and you’ll see not only the photos chosen by hotels, B&Bs and restaurants, but the phone images uploaded by those who want to praise – or criticise – the establishment.

And it’s not just the online viewers who are seeing pictures taken in hotel suites and bathrooms. As Linen Connect sales director Richard Yates reveals: “Particularly the ladies on their travels will be so impressed with the quality of towels they can wrap themselves in, or immaculate bed linen, that they will actually hunt down the label, take a photo of it, and then later find us. “We are emailed a photo and are asked ‘Can you sell that to the public?’ and we’re always delighted to say ‘Yes, we can.’ 

It’s the same with robes. While first choice is often the quality of sleep they’ve enjoyed at a hotel, the next one so often is the linen that makes their stay a luxurious experience.” It’s not just the five-star big names who want a high end product to go with their brand. 

Whether it’s laundries providing a rental product or the boutique-style operations and mid-range establishments they supply, there’s an awareness that paying a lower price for a similarly lesser quality product can be a false economy, with such linen often having a shorter ‘shelf life’ before it falls below the standards required.
